Occupy Port Townsend Shuts Down Bank of America
On Thursday Feb 2 a colorful and boisterous crowd of around 80 people gathered in support of the Occupy Port Townsend Groundhog day Big Bank Foreclosure Protest . Starting at about 2pm near Pope Marine park, the group held a brief rally, ate popcorn and fruit, and participated in an interactive theater performance on civil disobedience by the Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble.Just after 3pm, the group marched down Water Street to the sounds of bag pipes and drums- carrying signs and a huge tent- all in protest of big banks and big corporations hurting democracy and individual citizens. The march twice cycled through the US Bank drive through near the ferry terminal and then looped back down Water Street arriving at their final destination: Bank of America.
Once at Bank of America, the giant tent was dropped in front of the main Bank entrance. Immediately at least one protester sat in the tent while a brief street theater play was performed exploring the ironies of the foreclosure crisis, big banks, and the role of politicians (and big money) in this crisis. After the play, the audience was invited to ask questions of the play characters to further the dialogue.
