BofA has been doing this for a LONG time!
In the mid-1970s, I was stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital. When I was transferred to Oakland Naval Hosp, I opened an acct at the BofA branch there. After searching for a home we found one & decided to make a down payment on it.
We went to BofA to transfer the money (our entire savings acct). The teller’s response, & then that of the mgr, was “What money? We can’t find your acct.”
I had to leave work & go home to get the paperwork received when we made the initial deposit. I went back & BofA’s response was “Oh, that money.”
I then reported this to the CO & XO & was told I was not the only active duty person this happened to. The matter was investigated, & the BofA branch was banned from the base. A military credit union was allowed in.
